Overview:

This instrument is designed in accordance with the basic parameters and requirements specified in ISO 535, “Paper and paperboard—Determination of water absorption (Cobb method),” and GB/T 1540-2002, “Determination of water absorption of paper and paperboard (Cobb method).” This standard applies to the determination of water absorption on the surfaces of various types of paper or paperboard. However, it is not suitable for accurately evaluating the writing performance of paper or paperboard.

Technical Specifications:

The cross-sectional area of the metal cylinder is 100 ± 0.2 cm² (corresponding inner diameter of 112.8 ± 0.2 mm), with a cylinder height of 50 mm. The cylindrical surface in contact with the test specimen shall be smooth.

The basis weight of the absorbent paper is 200–250 g/m², and its absorption rate is 75 mm/10 min. If the basis weight of a single layer of absorbent paper is less than 200–250 g/m², multiple layers may be stacked to meet the requirements.

Smooth metal flat roller: The roller length is 200 ± 0.5 mm, and the mass should be 10 ± 0.5 kg.
